Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is NGO Darpan and who manages it?
NGO Darpan (darpan.gov.in) is a government portal managed jointly by NITI Aayog and the National Informatics Centre (NIC). It serves as a centralized database for voluntary organizations in India — trusts, societies, and Section 8 companies — and issues a Unique ID essential for government interactions.
Is NGO Darpan registration mandatory for FCRA?
Yes, absolutely. Following the FCRA Amendment Act 2020, NITI Aayog's NGO Darpan Unique ID has become mandatory for all organizations applying for fresh FCRA registration or FCRA renewal. Applications submitted without this ID are summarily rejected by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Is the government registration fee for NGO Darpan free?
Yes — the Darpan portal registration is completely free of government charge. You pay only our professional assistance fee (starting ₹2,999) for expert guidance, document preparation, portal filing and Unique ID activation.
How long does it take to get the NGO Darpan Unique ID?
With complete and accurate documentation, the Darpan Unique ID is typically issued within 3–7 working days. Our pre-verification process ensures all information entered is correct, avoiding any delays caused by errors or incomplete data.
Can a newly formed NGO register on Darpan?
Yes. Any recently registered Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company can apply for Darpan registration immediately after obtaining their registration certificate. There is no minimum age or operational history required for Darpan registration itself.
Does NGO Darpan replace 12A or 80G registration?
No. NGO Darpan, 12A, and 80G are three separate registrations. Darpan gives your organization a Unique ID for government identification. 12A gives income tax exemption on NGO income. 80G allows donors to claim tax deductions on donations. All three are important for a well-compliant NGO — we assist with all of them.
Is renewal required for NGO Darpan registration?
The Darpan Unique ID itself doesn't expire, but the information on the portal must be kept updated — including changes to office bearers, address, activities and financial data. Failure to update may result in profile deactivation. We provide annual update and maintenance support.
Can CSR funds be received without NGO Darpan registration?
While there's no absolute legal bar, most corporates and CSR fund managers now mandatorily ask for a Darpan Unique ID before releasing CSR funds. Platforms like GiveIndia, Charities Aid Foundation and direct corporate CSR teams use the Darpan portal to verify NGO credentials and compliance.
