Why Every MSME Must Register

Udyam Registration is the gateway to the entire MSME support ecosystem — without it, your enterprise cannot access government loans, subsidies, tenders, or protection schemes regardless of its size.

Mandatory to avail MSME Priority Sector Lending
Required for GeM portal seller registration
Legal protection against buyer payment delays (MSMED Act)
Prerequisite for CGTTMSE collateral-free loan guarantee

MSME Classification 2025

Which Category Do You Belong To?

As per the revised MSME definition (2020), classification is based on Investment in Plant & Machinery AND Annual Turnover.

M

Micro

Micro Enterprise
Investment ≤ ₹1 Crore
Turnover ≤ ₹5 Crore
Sectors Mfg + Service
S

Small

Small Enterprise
Investment ≤ ₹10 Crore
Turnover ≤ ₹50 Crore
Sectors Mfg + Service
M

Medium

Medium Enterprise
Investment ≤ ₹50 Crore
Turnover ≤ ₹250 Crore
Sectors Mfg + Service

* Both criteria (Investment AND Turnover) must be satisfied. If either limit is exceeded, the enterprise moves to the higher category.

Why Register Today

Key Benefits of Udyam Registration

A single certificate that unlocks a lifetime of government support for your business.

Collateral-Free Bank Loans

Access the CGTTMSE (Credit Guarantee) scheme — loans up to ₹2 crore without collateral or third-party guarantee for registered MSMEs.

50% Patent & TM Fee Subsidy

Registered MSMEs get a flat 50% reduction in government fees for Patent and Trademark registration applications.

Priority in Govt Tenders

25% of central government procurement is reserved for MSMEs. Udyam registration is mandatory to bid on GeM and CPPP portals.

Electricity Tariff Concessions

MSMEs in many states enjoy reduced electricity tariff rates under state-specific industrial promotion policies post Udyam registration.

Protection Against Late Payments

Under the MSMED Act, buyers must pay MSMEs within 45 days. Delayed payments attract compound interest — Udyam enables legal enforcement.

Reduced Interest on Bank Loans

Banks offer preferential lower interest rates (typically 1–1.5% below standard rate) on loans to Udyam-registered MSME borrowers.

Export Promotion & Incentives

Access NSIC subsidies for raw material procurement, international trade fairs, export promotion schemes, and Market Development Assistance.

Skill Development & Training

Registered MSMEs can access subsidised skill development, technology upgradation, and cluster development programmes under MoMSME schemes.

One-Time ISO Certification Reimbursement

Udyam-registered MSMEs can claim reimbursement of ISO certification fees from the NSIC (National Small Industries Corporation).

Frequently Asked Questions

Udyam Registration — FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about Udyam Registration.

Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) was the older self-declaration MSME registration system valid till 30 June 2020. Udyam Registration replaced it from 1 July 2020 with a more robust, PAN + GST linked, auto-verified system. UAM holders were required to migrate to Udyam. New registrations must be done on the Udyam portal only. Old UAM certificates are no longer accepted by banks and government agencies for scheme benefits.
Registration on the official Udyam portal (udyamregistration.gov.in) is completely free — the Government of India charges nothing. However, the process involves technical accuracy (NIC codes, investment figures, GST-ITR linkage) where errors can cause rejection or wrong classification. Our service fee covers expert guidance, accurate document preparation, and seamless end-to-end filing — ensuring you get the maximum benefits without errors.
Yes. As of 2021, trading enterprises (wholesale and retail) have been included in the MSME definition for Udyam Registration purposes, subject to fulfilling the investment and turnover criteria. Manufacturing and service enterprises were always eligible. So traders, retailers, service providers, IT companies, consultants, and manufacturers all qualify for Udyam registration.
No. Udyam Registration is a one-time, permanent registration. There is no renewal or expiry. However, you are required to update your registration every year (April–June) with updated turnover and investment figures from your latest ITR and GST returns to ensure you remain in the correct MSME category. Failure to update can result in category misclassification or potential cancellation.
Only one Udyam Registration is allowed per enterprise and per PAN. Multiple businesses run under a single PAN (e.g., a proprietor with multiple shops) must consolidate all activities under one Udyam registration. However, a person can hold multiple Udyam registrations if each business has a separate legal identity and separate PAN (e.g., a proprietorship and a private limited company).
If your investment or turnover exceeds the Medium Enterprise limits, your enterprise ceases to be an MSME and loses MSME benefits — but you continue to hold the Udyam certificate for records. If your figures grow from Micro to Small or Small to Medium, you should update your registration accordingly. The enterprise retains its previous category benefits for 3 years after graduation (upward movement) to allow for transition.
Yes. Private Limited Companies, LLPs, Partnership Firms, Proprietorships, Hindu Undivided Families (HUF), Co-operative Societies, Trusts, and Self-Help Groups are all eligible for Udyam Registration, provided they meet the investment and turnover criteria for Micro, Small, or Medium enterprises.
